Sunlight and Ashes.
For the first time in a very long time, I’ve gotten back to writing and recording some music on my own. The new song is called Sunlight and Ashes, and you can listen to it in the music player on the right (Facebook readers, just go on over to my real website; you won’t be disappointed).
I’ve been listening to nothing but Nine Inch Nails for the past month; I think it shows. I blatantly ripped off a number of ideas from Trent (I could list off a number of them and tell you exactly which songs they came from), but I think my own influence still manages to shine through. It’s in 7/4, with some fun polyrhythms. As usual, I don’t know what the lyrics are about (yet). Lyrical diarrhea. The song’s roughly divided in two parts; the first more brooding, the second a little hopeful and defiant.
As usual, I hope you like it.
we left the confines of our jail cell
to see the colour of the sun
and all the people we depend on
won’t let us have any more fun
we left a note taped to the door
hand-crafted modest work of art
we left with nothing on our backs
only the courage in our hearts
and as we came upon
the ashes of our homes
spread out across the lawn
we knew we were alone
sunlight shine on us
sunlight bring us down
sunlight come for us
sunlight take us down
