OEC’s New Digs.

The brand-new website for The Offshore Electric Company has gone live, and it’s looking good! Updates are done through Twitter, which I felt was an appropriate choice for the minimalist design of the site.

You may notice that there is only one page in the entire site; that’s what I was going for here. Everything you need to know about us is right in front of you. Big thanks to Mark Altosaar for the photo; that was a fun photoshoot.

Good iNtentions.

By the end of the summer, my album Good Intentions will be available for sale on the US and Canadian iTunes Music Stores, as well as eMusic. This will make the songs much easier to get your hands on. Long live online music retailers.

I’ll post here when it’s available; stay tuned.

Seven Hours is a Long Time.

Last night I uploaded the Offshore Electric Company’s new song, Seven Hours is a Long Time. You can listen to it at our website, OffshoreElectric.net (or .org, for those who prefer organizations to networks).

This song grew from one of the very first riffs Julian, Adam and I jammed with when we moved into our current space. In fact, it’s so-named because that first jam lasted seven hours that night. We decided that that was a long time indeed. It grew and shrank and settled into its current form since then, and we enjoy its energy. I think that as a new band we are also in the process of settling into some midpoint between this song and A Year Spent Underwater in terms of our songwriting; that said, I’m proud of the versatility we’re showing.

Give it a listen, we hope you like it.

OEC Update.

Yes, it’s been almost a month. Many things have happened, but I’m not ready to blog about it yet (read: I’m mostly lazy to go over it all). However, I will share these rehearsal videos of the Offshore Electric Company from last night.

A Year Spent Underwater

Seven Hours

Providence

Hopefully, you have heard our first recording, A Year Spent Underwater, but if you haven’t, please give it a listen at offshoreelectric.net. The two new songs are works-in-progress, but I think they’re quite enjoyable. We hope you like them!

Sunlight and Ashes.

For the first time in a very long time, I’ve gotten back to writing and recording some music on my own. The new song is called Sunlight and Ashes, and you can listen to it in the music player on the right (Facebook readers, just go on over to my real website; you won’t be disappointed).

I’ve been listening to nothing but Nine Inch Nails for the past month; I think it shows. I blatantly ripped off a number of ideas from Trent (I could list off a number of them and tell you exactly which songs they came from), but I think my own influence still manages to shine through. It’s in 7/4, with some fun polyrhythms. As usual, I don’t know what the lyrics are about (yet). Lyrical diarrhea. The song’s roughly divided in two parts; the first more brooding, the second a little hopeful and defiant.

As usual, I hope you like it.

we left the confines of our jail cell
to see the colour of the sun
and all the people we depend on
won’t let us have any more fun

we left a note taped to the door
hand-crafted modest work of art
we left with nothing on our backs
only the courage in our hearts

and as we came upon
the ashes of our homes
spread out across the lawn
we knew we were alone

sunlight shine on us
sunlight bring us down
sunlight come for us
sunlight take us down
